Questions about care in Highland

How many day care services are there in Highland?

There are 20 day care services in Highland registered with the Care Inspectorate, the regulator of care services in Scotland.

How are day care services in Highland rated?

18 of the 19 with grades from the Care Inspectorate (95%) have Good, Very good or Excellent as their lowest grade across the key questions graded. 1 has no grades shown, usually because the Care Inspectorate has not graded it yet. Care Inspectorate data as at 31 August 2026. In Scotland, the Care Inspectorate grades each service on a six-point scale, from Excellent to Unsatisfactory, for each key question that applies to its type of service. It gives no overall grade, so we do not show one. We show each grade as the Care Inspectorate publishes it and never turn it into a score of our own.

How do I choose a day care service in Highland?

Start with the help the person needs now and might need later, and shortlist a few services near the people who will visit. Check each one’s latest Care Inspectorate grades and how old it is, read its latest inspection report, and where you can, visit or meet the team more than once before you decide. Ask what is included in the fees and what happens if needs change. This is general information, not advice.

Who pays for care in Highland?

It depends on the person’s needs and finances. Some people pay for all of their own care, some get help from their council, and the NHS pays for some health care. The first step is to ask your local council for a free assessment of care needs: that is the council’s social work service. We do not show prices and this is general information, not advice.

How up to date is this information?

This page uses Care Inspectorate data as at 31 August 2026. We check for new data from the regulator every day, and each service page shows the date of the data it uses.

Choosing day care

A day care service is a place you go to for part of the day, for company, activities and support, and then go home. Adult day care is registered with the regulator in Scotland and Northern Ireland. In England and Wales day centres are not registered with the regulator, so they are not listed here.

Things to check

  • Ask what a typical day is like, which activities are offered and who they are for.
  • Ask about transport, opening days and hours, and what happens if you cannot attend.
  • Ask how staff look after medicines, meals and personal care during the day.
  • Read the latest Care Inspectorate report, and visit for a day before you decide.

Whoever ends up paying, you can ask your council’s adult social care team for a free assessment of what help you need. Our guide explains what to expect and what to ask.
