Choosing home care
Home care (the Care Inspectorate calls it care at home) means carers who visit you at home to help with things like washing, dressing, meals and medicines. You stay in your own home.
Things to check
- Ask whether you will have the same carers each time, and what happens if one is off sick.
- Ask how visit times are agreed, and what happens if a carer is running late.
- Ask how long each visit lasts, and whether travel time is counted in it.
- Read the latest Care Inspectorate report, and ask how the provider checks that visits happen.
Whoever ends up paying, you can ask your council’s adult social care team for a free assessment of what help you need. Our guide explains what to expect and what to ask.
