Questions about care in Gwynedd
How many home care services are there in Gwynedd?
There are 15 home care services in Gwynedd registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), the regulator of social care in Wales.
How are home care services in Gwynedd rated?
CIW rates each service on themes such as well-being and care and support, and gives no overall rating. 9 of them have ratings from CIW; the breakdown below counts each theme separately, in CIW’s own words. 6 have no ratings shown, because CIW has not published ratings for them yet. CIW data as at 14 October 2026. In Wales, CIW rates each service on themes, not as a whole: well-being, care and support, environment and leadership and management (the environment theme applies to care homes only). Each theme gets one of four ratings: Excellent, Good, Requires improvement or Requires significant improvement. It gives no overall rating, so we do not show one. Adult placement (Shared Lives) services are not rated. We show each rating as CIW publishes it and never turn it into a score of our own.
How do I choose a home care service in Gwynedd?
Start with the help the person needs now and might need later, and shortlist a few services near the people who will visit. Check each one’s latest CIW grades and how old it is, read its latest inspection report, and where you can, visit or meet the team more than once before you decide. Ask what is included in the fees and what happens if needs change. This is general information, not advice.
Who pays for care in Gwynedd?
It depends on the person’s needs and finances. Some people pay for all of their own care, some get help from their council, and the NHS pays for some health care. The first step is to ask your local council for a free assessment of care needs: that is the council’s adult social care team. We do not show prices and this is general information, not advice.
How up to date is this information?
This page uses CIW data as at 14 October 2026. We check for new data from the regulator every day, and each service page shows the date of the data it uses.
Choosing home care
Home care (sometimes called domiciliary care) means carers who visit you at home to help with things like washing, dressing, meals and medicines. You stay in your own home.
Things to check
- Ask whether you will have the same carers each time, and what happens if one is off sick.
- Ask how visit times are agreed, and what happens if a carer is running late.
- Ask how long each visit lasts, and whether travel time is counted in it.
- Read the latest CIW report, and ask how the provider checks that visits happen.
Whoever ends up paying, you can ask your council’s adult social care team for a free assessment of what help you need. Our guide explains what to expect and what to ask.
