Ratings are given after inspections carried out from 1 April 2025. The Welsh Government said it would take up to two years for all of these services to be inspected and rated.
CIW plans inspections using what it knows about each service. For care homes and home care, its code of practice gives these gaps between inspections: up to 18 months (routine), 12 months (early) or 6 months (priority). CIW can inspect at any time.
If CIW issues a “priority action notice”, the theme it relates to is rated Requires significant improvement. CIW then plans another inspection within six months.
