How care homes in Inverclyde are graded

The 15 with grades from Care Inspectorate, counted by their lowest grade across the key questions graded. Care Inspectorate gives no overall grade; the lowest grade is a figure it publishes itself. Grades are in Care Inspectorate’s own words, and we never turn them into a score of our own.

Choosing care homes

A care home is a place to live where staff help with things like washing, dressing, eating and taking medicines, day and night. In Scotland all care homes are registered as one kind of service, and the Care Inspectorate does not say which of them have nurses, so ask each home what nursing it provides.

Things to check

  • Visit more than once, at different times of day, and ask to see where meals are served.
  • Ask how many staff are on duty at night, and how often agency staff are used.
  • Ask what is included in the weekly fee and what costs extra, and how often fees can change.
  • Read the latest Care Inspectorate report, not only the rating, and ask the manager about anything it raises.

Whoever ends up paying, you can ask your council’s adult social care team for a free assessment of what help you need. Our guide explains what to expect and what to ask.
