Choosing supported living

Housing support is help to live in your own home, a flat or shared house, from support staff who help you live as independently as you can. We list it here as supported living. It is often used by adults with a learning disability, autism or mental health needs.

Things to check

  • Ask who owns or rents the home, and what your tenancy rights are.
  • Ask what support is included, when staff are on site and what happens at night.
  • Ask how you are involved in planning your own support.
  • Read the latest Care Inspectorate report for the care provider.

Whoever ends up paying, you can ask your council’s adult social care team for a free assessment of what help you need. Our guide explains what to expect and what to ask.
